TV prices dropping too fast, Sony says
Television prices are dropping faster than expected, and Sony’s not too happy about it.
Prices for liquid crystal display TVs should drop between 25% and 30% this year. That’s between 5 - 7% more than Sony anticipated, Stan Glasgow, president of Sony Electronics, said in a meeting with reporters in San Francisco last week.

Widescreen TVs and HDTV keeping people at home more
Over half of all Americans are staying home more than they did two years ago to enjoy high-tech entertainment between their own four walls, according to research by Marketing Daily.
Nearly as many say new technology such as widescreen TVs and HDTV has turned TV-watching into a social event.

Freeview HDTV trial ‘successful’
According to the BBC website, four major broadcasters claim the trial of high-definition television (HDTV) on Freeview boxes has been “a success”.

Toshiba puts back UK HD DVD roll-out
Toshiba has been forced to put back the UK release of its HD-E1 and HD-XE1 HD DVD players due to a “minor reliability issue” with one of the machines’ internal components. Due to ship this month, the HD-E1 will now arrive in December.
Likewise, the HD-EX1, originally scheduled to ship before Christmas will now appear in shops in January 2007, Toshiba said in a statement.

Samsung Blu-ray player available in the UK
The next generation format war has just hit the United Kingdom on Monday, with Samsung introducing its DMP-BD-P1000 Blu-ray disc player to the shops. Samsung advertises this as being the world’s first commercial Blu-ray disc player.

HDTV sales in the US to grow 71 percent by 2009
Television manufacturers will see a surge in cumulative HDTV sales over the next few years, which will boost the overall market value to $65 billion by 2009, according to “Adoption of High-Definition TVs and Services,” a new study from Parks Associates.
