Mitsubishi set to introduce laser HDTVs at CES
Mitsubishi will be exhibiting the latest ‘laser HDTV’ technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 2008. Several companies have been attempting to perfect the technology in preparation for mass production and it appears they must be close.
The long awaited laser TV technology is expected to provide brighter and deeper images using lightweight screens that also improve energy efficiency - adding a new category to the premium HDTV market.

Manufacturers of HDTV equipment seeing boom in sales
’HDTV’ is the key buzzword at Broadcast Asia 2007 where trade and industry players check out the latest high definition gear.
HD cameras are giving manufacturers a good signal for the future as more production houses and broadcasters zoom into the action.
Manufacturers said the take-up rate for HD equipment is rising, with Singapore and Thailand leading the HD revolution in the Asia Pacific region.

TV firms frustrated over low-tech Freeview
British audiences face watching the London Olympics from a televisual dark age, according to the country’s leading TV companies.
Without government intervention, broadcasters say viewers in a multitude of countries from France to Australia will be able to watch the world’s biggest sporting event in better quality pictures than the host nation.

Samsung: LCD HDTV market leader
Samsung led LCD TV makers in worldwide shipments and sales in the first quarter of this year, according to market research firm iSuppli.
The iSuppli numbers were reported by TWICE magazine.
According to iSuppli, Samsung captured 16.83 percent of the global LCD TV market, shipping 2.4 million sets in the first quarter.

HDTV survey from Hitachi - Women confused about HDTV
A new survey released yesterday from Hitachi America reveals that the high-definition television (HDTV) market is set to explode, with 78 percent of consumers saying their next TV will be an HDTV. Entering the back-to-school, football and holiday shopping seasons, Americans are clearly on the prowl for HDTVs, while also reporting that women are driving more purchases, bigger screens are better (especially for households with kids) and flat panels are favoured.
However, when discussing HDTV options such as DLP, LCD and Plasma, seven in ten (73%) women say they are confused by the options, compared to only about half (51%) of men.

Sony cuts Blu-ray price; PS3 next?
Sony yesterday confirmed that its next generation Blu-ray player will cost $499, leading to speculation that it will also slash the price of its PlayStation 3.
“If the cost of Blu-ray is coming down, you can drop the price of anything with Blu-ray in it,” Arvind Bhatia, an analyst with Sterne Agee & Leach, told the Dow Jones News Service.
