China expects huge jump in HDTV sales
High definition television shipments in China are expected to jump to over 3 million units this year from only 970,000 units last year.
However, despite the huge increase most HDTV owners are unaware of the specifications of their TV sets, implying a lack of understanding of the new medium, according to a study by Sino Market Research.

Panasonic offers HD image web-service
Panasonic Direct has launched a high definition art and photography web-service for use on Panasonic HDTVs through a web-service.
The new service, dubbed ‘Panasonic HD Image Gallery’, features a library of downloadable HD image collections powered by GalleryPlayer, a high definition still imagery provider.

Plasma TV shipments up 87%
Global plasma TV shipments have grown by 87% year on year, but fell 26% quarter on quarter to 1.7 million units, according to figures by DisplaySearch.

Sony PS3 available for pre-order
Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3) console has gone on sale on the web despite not being launched until 17 November this year.
The 60Gb model is on offer as pre-order for £549 at play.com.

Robbie Williams concert to be shown in HD
Sky One has announced it will broadcast live to air Robbie Williams’ Live at Leeds concert on 9th September, 2006. The concert will be the first live broadcast from the UK in HD on Sky One and Sky One HD. The concert will be broadcast live from Roundhay Park, Leeds.

Sharp to release eight new HD-ready TVs
Sharp has announced that it is to introduce eight new HD-ready televisions from its Aquos range into the UK market.
Four of the flat screen LCD TVs come with integrated Freeview.

Blu-ray player launched in US by Samsung
Samsung has announced that retailers will be selling its Blu-ray disc player in the US from 25th June for around $1,000.
The Blu-ray player, BD-P1000, will allow consumers to view high definition discs on their existing HDTVs, getting closer to a cinematic experience.
