HDTV on your cell phone?
Technology Review reports that a high-def cell phone could soon be available. Cornell University researchers, the magazine writes, say they are close to developing a new technology that would enable the HD mobile.
Many industry analysts doubt that Americans will ever be interested in watching TV on their mobiles, but high-def could change that thinking.
Technology Review writes that a HD projector the size of a dime would cast a meter-wide image on a surface only half a meter away.
Similar displays, called MEMS (microelectromechanical systems), already exist in commercial devices. Texas Instruments, for instance, has developed a chip that uses millions of mirrors to display small precise images.
