HDTV owners ‘watch more TV’
High definition television (HDTV) has had a remarkable impact upon the consumer electronics industry, experts have claimed.
The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) reports that excitement for high definition technology remains exceptionally high and that consumers are overwhelmingly pleased with the products they are purchasing.
“As the industry transitions to high definition technologies, consumers are adopting high definition televisions and, at the same time, embracing high definition content,” said Bob Chapek, president of DEG and president of Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment.
DEG, in collaboration with SmithGeiger LLC, recently interviewed around 1,100 HDTV owners to gain an idea of their attitudes, usage patterns and behaviour.
A staggering 97% of owners claimed to be satisfied with their sets and 59% admitted to watching more TV as a direct result of the high definition evolution.
There is, however, a long way to go in terms of technical understanding, with 28% confessing that they are unsure how their set is connected. Only 11% believe they are using HDMI, which is the optimal connection for HD programming.
To address some of these concerns, DEG has introduced a new HDTV Guide which examines the differences between HD televisions, high definition viewing options and information on connecting an HDTV.
