Increased rear projection HDTV sales for June
Pacific Media Associates, a research company for global display market information, reports that unit sales for rear projection televisions in North America grew by 12% in June over May’s sales. Their RPTV Sell-Through Tracking Service report also shows that this growth was similar to the increase in June 2005.
Rosemary Abowd, Vice President of Pacific Media said: “For the first time in our survey, all five of the top selling models had 1080p resolution.”
“55- to 59-inch 1080p DLP models were the best selling segment, accounting for 18.5% of the unit market share, and 17.4% of the revenue share.”
The average street price fell 4% to $2,413. Year-over-year, unit sales were down 1%, and the average street price is nearly identical to where it was in June 2005. The market has shifted away from CRT-based products, and the prices of the microdisplay-based models have declined rapidly in the past year.
