Sharp unveils new HD products

Sharp has stepped up its commitment to high definition technology with the introduction of a wide array of innovative products.

Announcing the company’s latest offerings at CEDIA 2006 in the US last week, Sharp’s senior vice president and group manager of the product and marketing group stressed that high-definition was now driving Sharp’s progress.

“High-definition is the future of entertainment and we are proud to be bringing to market a complete line of ‘full HD’ display products that will enhance consumers’ home entertainment experience,” Bob Scaglione said.

“Sharp is committed to leading the high definition products industry and our CEDIA booth reflects that commitment,” he added.

Three large-screen 1080p HDTV liquid crystal televisions will perhaps attract the most interest in the consumer market. Available in 42-inch, 46-inch and 52-inch models, the televisions have been produced at Sharp’s eighth-generation plant in Japan and they represent the pinnacle of the company’s current capabilities.

They all use Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View panel, enabling superior LCD performance and an improved contrast ratio for deep blacks and crisp picture quality. They also boast wider viewing angles to allow more people in a room to enjoy the quality of the picture.

In another major breakthrough, Sharp unveiled its XV-Z20000 – a DLP 1080p home theatre front projector. It possesses a native resolution of “full HD” 1,920 x 1,080 for 16:9 widescreen movie viewing and will reportedly transform “any room into a high-tech home theatre”.

Among Sharp’s other new offerings are the Widescreen LC-26DV20U and LC-20DV20U LCD TVs, which offer a slim all-in-one television and video solution. With a built-in progressive-scan DVD player at the side of the TV, this has been described by Sharp as “a complete home theatre solution”.

Many of Sharp’s new products are already available, although others will be released in October.
