World Cup fans snap up HDTVs

The impending World Cup being broadcast by the BBC in HDTV has led to soaring sales for electrical retailers as football fans snap up the newest technology for the tournament.

Curry’s, the high-street electrical retail chain, said that flat-panel monitors are selling out at a rate of one every 15 seconds.

Meanwhile, other electrical stores have reported a 50 per cent rise in sales of high definition and flat-screen TVs.

The two contributing factors to such a surge in sales appears to be that the World Cup will be delivered in HD, whilst the cost of the technology has dropped significantly over the last 12 months.

Economists have predicted that an extra £1.25bn will be spent across Britain thanks to the World Cup - with much of that going on HDTV electricals.
