Xbox 360 HDMI connection rumoured

A new round of rumours have emerged surrounding Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console.

The latest gossip, based on pictures supplied to Xbox website Xbox Scene by an anonymous source, suggests that a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connection port is being lined up for the console.

A HDMI connection has a high bandwidth and would allow the console to be hooked up to a high definition television.

“We received this image from a source who wishes to remain anonymous. An Xbox 360 motherboard with a HDMI-port,” said Xbox Scene.

“Our source has seen three of these motherboards already, so it looks like Microsoft might be working on a new Xbox 360 version with a HDMI-port.”

The website confirmed that the pictures were unsubstantiated and Microsoft has made no comment on them.

Microsoft only recently had to deny speculation suggesting that an Xbox 360 with an internal HD DVD drive would soon be available.

A separate HD DVD player add-on has been developed for the console, meaning that an HDMI port would be a useful addition to new consoles.

“A digital output would certainly come as good news for those out there with new HDTV-sets and it could be pretty useful for the HD DVD add-on too,” the website added.
